Principal’s Blog October 16

Dear Zachary High School Parents, Students, and Community Members:

Today is day 45 of the 2013-2014 and students, teachers, and staff are giving their all to make this the “Year of the Bronco”!  We have several highlights to share already in the month of October.  Mr. Bowers and the Choir put on an outstanding performance at their Fall Concert, it was very entertaining.  The Lady Bronco Volleyball Team is having a great season and have positioned themselves to make a state playoff run.  Senior night for them is Thursday, October 17th.  The Football team earned a huge victory over Plaquemine Friday night to go 4-2 and the Band, Belles, and Cheerleaders were the epitome of class and it was all on television, Cox 4 Game of the Week.  Cox Cable recognized Mrs. Wendy Elbourne as the Teacher of the Week and Jackie Odom as the Student of the Week at halftime, congratulations to them.   Today 191 sophomores and juniors are taking the PSAT which is a large increase from the number last year.

One of the proudest moments of the year so far has been the ZHS Student Body coming through to help the Zachary Food Pantry in a time of need.  Organized by the FBLA and SGA our students raised over $2,300 in one week to support the Food Pantry.  Congratulations to the Homeroom classes of Mr. Walker, Dr. Jackson, Mr. Rayborn, and Mr. Rumfola for collecting the most money as a class.  Just another example of what makes Zachary and the ZCSD the best.

A Smile is the most effective way to create a positive climate.

We have a lot of work left to do and we will continue to work as hard as possible to help every student reach his or her maximum potential.  I am so thankful for a faculty and staff that care more and works harder than any group of people I have ever been associated with.

A parent of a 2013 graduate emailed this to us just last week:

My son finally got all of his AP, dual enrollment and testing credits added to his transcript and he has 47 hours.  38 hours were from AP (he has all of his English and Math credits thanks to AP), has 6 from BRCC courses and 3 from ACT placement.  Just thought this might be useful info to share with other students—AP credit does help!!

*Homecoming is two weeks away, October 28-November 1.  Come join us for a great Zachary celebration at the Homecoming parade Friday, November 1st

Thank you parents and community members for being such a source of support for Zachary High School!

 Sincerely,
Wes Watts
It’s a Great Day to be a Bronco!
