Principal’s Blog

The 2013-2014 school year is in full swing and what a year this going to be.  The ZHS Administrative Team and Staff have been very busy preparing for what we know will be another exciting and productive school year.  In fact, we are claiming this to be the “Year of the Bronco” as the 100th Senior Class of Zachary High School will graduate in May.  What an amazing and important part of history our seniors get to experience as they work to meet the expectation of excellence that has always been a part of this school and city.  We invite you to join us in providing whatever it takes for our students to be successful and make the 100th anniversary of Zachary High School a year to remember.

Student enrollment for this year is 1,582 with 419 freshmen, 15 new staff members, and a new Zachary Career and Technical Center (ZCTC) which is an extension of Zachary High School.  We are confident that a spirit of love, acceptance, and school pride will blend each student into our Bronco family.  The teachers and staff at Zachary High School care more, work harder, and enjoy their profession more than any group of educators I have ever worked with.

“To help every student reach his or her maximum potential through high quality instruction and character building experiences.”            Zachary High School Mission

ZHS accomplished some amazing things in 2012-2013 academically, athletically, and in the character development of our students.  End of Course exam scores were number one in the state, Advanced Placement scores were in the top ten in several categories, and our ACT results were amazing given the new testing procedures mandated by the state.  The baseball team finished as the 5A State Runner Up, two individuals won state championships in track, and the Mock Trial Team won the Louisiana Bar Association State Championship and competed in the National Mock Trial Competition.   Those are just a few of the accomplishments from last year.

This school year we will see students accomplish even more as we “Let Awesome Happen.”  Teachers are more fired up to start this year than ever before, and our students will reap the benefits.  We will judge our success at the end of the year by what students know, what students can do, and what kind of person students become.  We understand that a safe, orderly, and positive environment is critical and the most important job we have is to help students experience success.  To accomplish this, we will expect students to live by the ZHS Student Code:  Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Your Best.  Students will be held accountable to live by this code every day including arriving on time to class, dressing within school guidelines, respecting each and every person on campus, and working hard to reach their maximum potential.
