Louisiana Youth Seminar
The Louisiana Youth Seminar was established in 1971 as a summer leadership camp for high school students. Every year the Seminar is held at Louisiana State University for one week in July. During this week, students participate in many activities which focus on leadership skills, such as effective communication skills, setting and achieving goals, team building, understanding and accepting others, developing self confidence, conducting effective meetings, and problem solving skills. Tulane Science Scholars Program
The Tulane Science Scholars Program is a selective program for high school students who have exceptional talent in the sciences and mathematics. This year’s summer program includes three courses. Applicants should currently be in the 10th or 11th grade and have a strong interest in science and math. A maximum of 24 students will be selected for the program and will be based on (1) student essay, (2) teacher recommendation, and (3) school transcript. The High Ability Program at Grambling State University is an exciting enrichment program for high school juniors (rising seniors) who have exemplified outstanding academic achievement. This program will include the opportunity to earn six college credit as well as complete a science project. Xavier University Summer Science Academy
- Summer Science Academy “Star” Programs – for high school students who have expressed an expressed interest in science careers. Each program introduces a content area to students BEFORE the student takes the course in high school. The programs are MathStar (Algebra I), BioStar (Biology), and ChemStar (Chemistry).
- Louisiana Engineering Advancement Program – a competitive and intensive honors program designed to improve the anayltical reasoning and verbal skills of students considering careers in engineering, mathematics, or the sciences.
